Our Principles
We are a collective of committed professional performers. Our goals are to democratize ACTRA, our member-led Union, and transform it into an organization with the power to effectively fight on its members' behalf. To that end, RCAP declares the principles upon which our work is based. These principles have been established through conversation and consultation with members and are focused on prioritizing the members' needs. We do not have a single leader. In the spirit of the old Industrial World of the Workers, "We are all leaders here."
-
Build Power
RCAP aims to build a supportive, respectful community of professional performers that provides members with a collective vehicle for building and exercising democratically accountable power over their working lives. We believe our Union, ACTRA, can and should be that vehicle.
-
Democracy
ACTRA belongs to its members. Our Union's structure and operations are opaque and insufficiently democratic. A Union is not a corporation and should not be run like one. Democracy and transparency are the foundations needed to restore the Union to its members. By restoring democratic governance and the "collective" to collective bargaining, we also restore our power vis-à-vis the employers.
-
Reform
As members of RCAP, we share varying perspectives but agree on two fundamental values:
A) Our power comes from growing grassroots member-based networks.
B) We want to reform our Union and rebuild its power, not exit or replace it.
-
Inclusion & Respect
RCAP operates based on active inclusion.
A) We want to work with, on behalf of, and show respect to anyone who wishes to collaborate with the RCAP movement.
B) We support the need for diversity of participation and representation in all RCAP's activities and ACTRA's programs. -
Goals
RCAP has ambitious goals that begin with getting members working on an effective, fair and robust National Commercial Agreement under ACTRA. We’re starting here because this is where the employers’ attack has hit performers first. We believe every sector of our Union’s jurisdiction, from Film and Television to Audiobooks, Animation, Voiceover and Videogames - will come under similar employer attacks if they haven’t already. We want our movement to be an organizing model for performers working under those contracts.

As RCAP members we uphold—
As members of RCAP, we will uphold, abide and affirm these principles. They will anchor us as we pursue exceptional goals. These imperative principles will keep us honest, safe, kind, and empowered for collaboration.
