ABOUT

The Rank and File Caucus of
ACTRA Performers

We are a dedicated group of union performers committed to organizing and empowering ACTRA members from the ground up.

RCAP’s work is rooted in people power. We want to unite as creative labourers, transforming into a responsive, collective voice that amplifies the vision and interests of the Rank and File.

Solidarity in Action. We hold meetings to spark conversation, gather feedback, ignite ideas, and foster a sense of community. All welcome!

*We exercise our right to assemble freely and organize. This is a member-led caucus, and views expressed are those of the participants and do not represent ACTRA’s official positions or policies.

RCAP // ROOTS

Formed in January 2023, RCAP was built through a steering committee of twelve working actors, collectively bringing over 225 years of rank-and-file experience. Emerging from the National Commercial Agreement Strategy Sub-Committee (June 2022 – February 2023), which was created to address the commercial lockout crisis, RCAP has grown into a dynamic, member-led caucus.

In March 2023, RCAP formally petitioned for Bargaining Reform and Transparency in response to the lockout. Their early advocacy led to an invitation to attend the "Rules to Win By: Power & Participation in Union Negotiations" sessions at the UC Berkeley Labor Center, led by renowned bargaining strategist Jane F. McAlevey.

That spring, RCAP was honoured to be invited by Labor Notes to participate in multiple panels at its annual conference in Chicago—North America’s largest gathering of grassroots union organizers and reformers. A highlight included a mainstage plenary, where then-RCAP Chair and now ACTRA Toronto President Kate Ziegler shared the stage with UAW National President Shawn Fain.

RCAP has been grateful for mentorship from leaders like Gerry Daley, former WGA organizer and labour lawyer, and for the continued support of Labor Notes. While based in Toronto, RCAP actively engages members across North America.

As of 2025, RCAP is now led by a new, seven-member steering committee.
