UNITY.
VISION.
PURPOSE.

A different way will yield different results.

We have worked to unify members, one call, one email, and one conversation at a time. From meetings and rallies, education and mentorship, initiatives and action—together, we have gone from chaos to clarity, and what has emerged is a shared vision for our union.

Our purpose is to work relentlessly to bring that vision to life. The intricacies of our craft are as diverse as the stories we tell. We are storytellers. Creative work is labour. We must respect and protect it. A united membership wins strong contracts.

RCAP ran a slate in the 2023 ACTRA Toronto elections led by eight of our steering committee members and won! We asked you to elect the slate - and you voted for ALL EIGHT.

This work and your support have humbled us, and serving you will be an honour.

Change is Coming.

What is a Slate? A Union slate refers to a group or list of candidates running for leadership during an election. These candidates often share a common platform, goals, and vision for the union, and they may run as a unified team to collectively pursue their objectives. Scroll down to read our platform.

Why run a Slate? To present a cohesive leadership team to the membership, combined expertise (agreement knowledge—IPA, NCA, Audio Code), ideas and actions, continuity and shared ideals to help shape and guide ACTRA's activities and represent its members' interests.

The RCAP Platform — Come Together

Empowering members to make informed decisions and actively contribute to the union's goals and activities.

Your issues are our issues. Why? Because we fundamentally and practically understand an actor/performer's working life. This is an unprecedented time in our Union. This is a time to re-imagine and re-energize. Let’s join hands with returning council members, connect with our history, and inspire current members to demand more while becoming part of the solution.

This is the vision for our Union as sourced by members. We’ve been listening.

1) COMMUNICATION

Making it make sense.

Our (RCAP) communication strategy is built on clear, consistent, straightforward language to ensure members we connect with fully understand what's being said. We take pride in this approach.

This helps members comprehend the information and creates a strong sense of unity, trust, and belonging. They not only get the info they need but also feel heard and represented in it.

To promote transparency, we must significantly transform how we (the Union) communicate with our members. This includes improving how members receive the information.

The lockout has exposed the confusion and apathy around how we interact and respond to Union emails. We know online fatigue is real. But, let’s build a strategy toward conversation, not just announcements. Let’s inform and empower.

2) TRANSPARENCY

Transparency is vital for a healthy union.

Embracing radical transparency empowers the rank-and-file, laying the unshakeable foundation for real change. It means providing members with honest, on-time information about union activities, finances, negotiations (before and after bargaining), and crucial decisions. No more executive sidebars. No more rubber stamping. No more secrecy.

We're committed to ensuring every member, no matter their work category, has equal access to information and opportunities to participate. This is our pledge.

3) ORGANIZING

Let’s get Organize our Rank-and-File.

Organizing lays the groundwork for success within a Union, and through it, we foster critical trust and comradery among the membership, building strong connections with our staff and drawing our steadfast supporters closer. Unity is achieved through organized efforts. As Jason Mogus wisely said, “Organizing is building power. Mobilizing is spending power”.

  1. Organize our rank-and-file. That’s you!

  2. Work for all categories of the union.

  3. Create a sustainable and member-driven path to bring more working actors/performers into our Union; a jurisdictionally supportive policy.

  4. Robust preparedness around bargaining. Our Union does surveys and focus groups. Does it go far enough?
We want to engage in the power of participation. Surveys with completion targets, expanded focus groups, in-person meetings, categorical captains, contract review and comprehensive structure tests of our membership so we can win at the bargaining table.
